COW CREEK CROSSING AND BUFFALO BILL MATHEWSON'S HAND DUG WELL
Corner of N Ave. and 12th Rd., West of Lyons
This crossing was adjacent to the south side of the present bridge one mile south of the Father Padilla Cross. Perhaps the best-known surviving feature of the Cow Creek Crossing area is Buffalo Bill Mathewson's Hand Dug Well. The well, with a DAR marker to the north of it is still there.

The eternal flame was donated to Rice County in 1969 to honor our veterans and features a Civil War memorial.

North of the marker near the middle of the section, on what was originally called Owl Creek, Mexican trader Don Antonio José Chávez was the victim of Missouri ruffians in 1843.
